What is the purpose of the 3dspeedmachine?
We're here to provide the 3D community with a comprehensive database of meaningful computer performance benchmarks. The database will ultimately be able to provide 3D users solid data on how well a specific workstation, or hardware configuration, will work with their specific software and or plugins.
Why should I participate?
The information you submit will help your fellow 3D artists in many ways. As soon as we have a broad range of sufficient data, the database will become a valuable resource for anyone in the 3D industry. For example: Users who are shopping for workstations can compare prices in relation to software specific rendertimes or access the pros and cons of the latest processors...and much more.
How accurate is the data?
The data is only as accurate as the user who submits it. We believe in the integrity of the 3D community and are confident that the vast majority of the database is as accurate as possible. That being said, we keep a keen eye out for any users who submit suspicious data. Any user who we believe is intentionally submitting false data will be banned permanently.
I see data from a user that is obviously inaccurate. What can I do?
Users are encouraged to click the flag icon on the benchmarks page if they notice data from a user that is blatantly inaccurate. The 3dspeedmachine.com staff will deal with the submitted data/user accordingly. Red flags are benchmarks that have been flagged by a registered user. DOT NOT flag a benchmark unless you have good reason to believe it is inaccurate. Benchmarks that have been investigated and determined to be accurate will have a green flag.
Can I Modify the scene file?
No. Modifying the scene file defeats the purpose of benchmarking. It is crucial that everyone is rendering the exact same scene in order for the benchmarks to be meaningful.
How do I view the benchmark data?
Viewing the data is completely free and open to all 3D users. You can view the benchmark data by clicking on "Benchmarks and Scenes." From there you can select the scene file of interest. Scenes are broken up by software version and render plugin used.
How do I submit data?
In order to submit your stats you must register. Registration is very easy and it is necessary in order keep track of who submitted what. Also some users may have multiple computers and or software packages that they want to submit data for.
To register and submit your stats please do the following:
1. Click the register button and fill in the appropriate fields. You will receive
an email confirmation to verify your account.
2. Once your account is activated, click the login button and enter your login
information.
3. To setup your workstation profile click The My Systems button on the top navigation.
4. Use the dropdown lists provided to build your workstation profile.
5. Once you have saved a workstation profile, click on Benchmarks and Scenes and click the software you wish to benchmark.
6. From this page you can view all the benchmarks for this scene, filter the benchmarks, download the scene and enter your own render time for your selected workstation.
You don't have a scene file for the software I use. What can I do?
We have tried to make a scene file available for all the major 3D software applications. However, we have limited resources and do not have unlimited access to all software applications and render plugins. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that we will have a scene file for every possible software and render plugin combination. If you can't find a scene file for your specific software needs, we encourage you to submit you own so that others take advantage.
